The effects of Botox™, on the average, can last 3 to 4 months; in some patients the effects can last as long as 6 months. Kamran Hakimian, MD, medical director of Laser Touch Medical Clinic in Beverly Hills, CA, offers this advice on how to maintain the effects of Botox™:
- Avoid excessive exposure to heat, especially in the first 4-6 hours of receiving Botox™ injections.
--> Reason: Botox™ is a protein that can break down due to excessive heat exposure. Heat sources include jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, tanning or spending more than 10-30 minutes in direct sunlight, as well as cooking over a hot stove.
- Avoid the use of supplements or products that can boost your metabolism, such as diet pills or supplements in any form.
--> Reason: Botox™ is broken down by the body naturally over the course of 3-4 months and products that enhance metabolism can speed up the process by which the body breaks down Botox™.
- Avoid receiving Botox™ injections to the same area 1-2 months from your previous Botox injections.
--> Reason: Receiving Botox™ to the same area before the recommended time may cause your body to become immune to the effects of Botox™.
Following these guidelines will help you get the most out of your Botox™ treatment and keep you looking your best!
