How to Make the effects of Botox last longer?

It is well known Botox™ is effective in the temporary treatment of wrinkles, fine lines, and has helped countless patients in achieving their goals for looking their best. As clinicians, we occasionally come across questions regarding ways to make the effects of Botox™ last.

The effects of Botox™, on the average, can last 3 to 4 months; in some patients the effects can last as long as 6 months. Kamran Hakimian, MD, medical director of Laser Touch Medical Clinic in Beverly Hills, CA, offers this advice on how to maintain the effects of Botox™:
  • Avoid excessive exposure to heat, especially in the first 4-6 hours of receiving Botox™ injections.
--> Reason: Botox™ is a protein that can break down due to excessive heat exposure. Heat sources include jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, tanning or spending more than 10-30 minutes in direct sunlight, as well as cooking over a hot stove.
  • Avoid the use of supplements or products that can boost your metabolism, such as diet pills or supplements in any form.
--> Reason: Botox™ is broken down by the body naturally over the course of 3-4 months and products that enhance metabolism can speed up the process by which the body breaks down Botox™.
  • Avoid receiving Botox™ injections to the same area 1-2 months from your previous Botox injections.
--> Reason: Receiving Botox™ to the same area before the recommended time may cause your body to become immune to the effects of Botox™.

Following these guidelines will help you get the most out of your Botox™ treatment and keep you looking your best!
